Hi everyone.  We are writing this to explain how the payouts for pool league work each season.

Every week you are expected to each pay $7.

Here is a breakdown of what that $7 is allotted for:

$4 of that goes to the team prize money (this is money that is available for paying out the team’s prize

money at the end).  Every team gets prize money back even last place.

$1 goes towards the individual tournaments at the end of the season.

$2 is to pay for the use of the pool table instead of putting quarters in it each game.

This equals the $7.

In recent seasons the bar owners have decide that in order to make it a more exciting tournament at the end of each season that we would donate the $2 per player that was being taken out for the pool table fee back to the league for the end of season tournament’s prize money.  This past summer session this equaled over $700 donated to the individual tournaments ($2 x 4 players per team x 10 teams x 9 weeks-two regular weeks plus no charge for pool for playoffs = $720 + 160 in free pool).

So each week that you pay the $7- now all of that money goes into the prize fund.

There has been much confusion about the payouts each season at the end.  When a team is short is has to be paid back because the prize money is based on each team paying $7 in each week.  If a team is short any time during the season it has to come out of the teams prize money to make the other payouts right.  Last 9-ball season was 9 weeks long plus playoff weeks (which we haven’t been having you pay for).  So each team was supposed to pay in $28 per week.  (You each paid $63 into the prize fund last season) There were ten teams total so that is $280 per week breaking down to be $160 each week towards the total team prize money pool and $120 each week towards the team tournament prize money pool.  So there was a total prize pool for the teams after a 9 week season of $1440.  There was a total tournament prize fund of $1080.  There are very few teams that are never short paying in the league fees each week.  For a team prize fund of $1440 with 10 teams we would normally pay the median team their money back (based on the $4 per player paid into that prize fund each week) so they would get around $144.  Each place up or down from that would get plus or minus around $20.  Of course any team shorts come out of this payout because the tournament has to be fully paid for (we can’t take the shorts out of the tournament winnings obviously).  So if a team was short a player even 3 times during a season and didn’t pay for that spot that’s $21 short.  So they would have paid in $123 towards the team payout fund and If they finished in the middle of the pack they would have the $144 coming back (number based on every team paying the proper amount each week) minus that $21 = $123.  There just isn’t that much prize money in a 9 week season!  I realize (me, Lynn that is) that I could be presenting this all more clearly as far as byes go.  I was figuring that everyone understood this all a little better and I’ll be clearer from now on when I pay you all each season.  If anyone has any question about the payouts please ask me from now on.

From now on the teams are responsible for paying a minimum each week of at least $3 per player to cover the individual tournaments at the end.  So if a team doesn’t put in at least $12 per week then their standings will not be posted until the money is right.  Also remember that any money short of the $28 per team per week is going to be made up at the end by the team getting that much less back in team’s prize money.  We base the prize money on each team paying in the full $28 each week.
